Thunder Bay International Film Festival (TBIFF) is an annual film event held each January in Alpena and surrounding communities in northeast Michigan, produced by the Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in partnership with the International Ocean Film Festival. It showcases dozens of ocean and Great Lakes-themed films from around the world, highlighting topics like marine life, exploration, conservation, coastal cultures and freshwater ecosystems. Screenings are paired with educational activities, social events and opportunities to meet filmmakers, making it both a cultural and community celebration of water-related cinema.
